Famous Georgian film critic and film art researcher Irina Kuchukhidze has died BACK ↩

 

The Georgian Film Academy expresses deep sorrow over the death of the famous film critic and film art researcher, Mrs. Irina Kuchukhidze.

Irina Kuchukhidze was a distinguished member of the cinematic community – a person of brilliant mind and beautiful soul. She came to the Georgian Cinema in 1975, after graduating from the State Institute of Cinematography, and immediately gained authority with her depth of thought, professional ethics, personality and courage.   Senior and middle-aged filmmakers remember the  position that Ms. Irina took when defending Georgian and other films from Soviet censorship. Irina Kuchukhidze has been engaged in scientific and pedagogical activities at Shota Rustaveli State University of Theater and Cinema for many years and has headed the Film Sector of the Scientific Research Center.

Her work is dedicated to the stylistic diversity of Georgian cinema of the 1960s and 1980s, and the peculiarities in the works of Georgian film directors such as Mikheil Kobakhidze, Otar Ioseliani, Eldar Shengelaia, Merab Kokochashvili and Alexander Rekhviotsishvili. They are of fundamental importance in the study of the essence of the aesthetic nature of Georgian cinema.

Irina Kuchukhidze made a great effort to pave the way for a new generation of film experts. Her departure broke the hearts of everyone who knew her …
