An extraordinary Georgian director and a wonderful person Merab Kokochashvili turned 85 on March 21st.
” Culture has been degrading in recent years, so it needs a lot more attention. Culture is the foundation, which everything stands, politics, social relations, health and so on. The government needs to take this very seriously. It is necessary to develop a strategy in which culture will acquire one of the crucial values ”- Says Mr. Merab.
Mr. Merab belongs to the older generation of cinematographers, but those who know him will agree that no one is younger than him … He is tireless, active, full of energy, who is always ready to help …
As a director, he made the biggest impact with his “Khmeli Tsifeli” and “Didi Mtsvane Veli” and voiced national grief in “Gza shvidobisa, Jako” and “Tskheli Zafkhulis Sami Dge”. The pain of the 90’s society was shown in the film “Nutsas Skola” and many more … He also created a unique film about the history of Georgia – a multi-series documentary “Gza” (1983), which has a great educational value. Mr. Merab is working on a new film “Tertso Mondo” which is almost complete.
