Ariadna Shengelaia’s Star to Be Opened in front of Rustaveli Theater on January 13 BACK ↩

On January 13, a star dedicate to the Georgian artist Ariana Shengelaia, will open in front of the Rustaveli Theater. An evening dedicated to her will take place at the Griboedov Theater at 17:00.

Ariadna Shengelaia has lived in Tbilisi for many years, but has stayed away from the public eye and has not appeared in front of the audience since 2007. After a 13-year long pause, the public will see Ariadna on the opening of the Star on her birthday. The audience will also be able to see excerpts from her films and a video created by the National Film Center dedicated to Ariadna Shengelaia’s work.

Although Ariadna Shengelaia is not of Georgian descent, Georgian viewers are very familiar with her roles. While studying at the Moscow Film Institute, Ariadna Shengelaia came to know Georgian director Eldar Shengelaia. After getting married, she moved to Tbilisi, became an actress for the Georgian Films, created many memorable characters in Georgian cinema, and in 1979 was awarded the title of Georgian National Artist.

Ariadna Shengelaya’s works include: Tatiana (“Eugene Onegin”, 1958), Eugene Grande (“Evgeniya Grande “, 1960), Manoli (“Enguris Napirebze”, 1961), Maria (“White Caravan”, 1964), Vera Sheina. (“Granatovyy Braslet “, 1964), Lotta (“Jvartsmuli kundzuli “, 1968), Carolina (“Fenerz List”, 1970), Carolina (“Mtvaris Motatseba “, 1971), Margalita (“Shrekilebi”, 1974) and more.

At the same time, Ariadna Shengelaia was an actress at the Griboedov Theater and also taught at the University. “Dramatic art will always prevail if there is an actor with such talent on stage,” said Akaki Khorava about Ariadna Shengelaia’s role in Medea Kuchukhidze’s play ‘Anna Frank’s Diary,’ which was staged in 1964.
